Coding Australia

Welcome to Coding Australia

With Scratch, you can program your own interactive stories, games, and animations and share your creations with others in the online community. Scratch helps people of any age learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively, essential skills for life in the 21st century. Scratch is a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the MIT Media Lab. It is provided free of charge. Project solutions and a whole lot more can be found as pdfs (SEAM) and in the Scratch Studio.

The HTML canvas element is used to draw graphics, on the fly, via scripting (usually JavaScript). The canvas element is only a container for graphics. You must use a script to actually draw the graphics. Canvas has several methods for drawing paths, boxes, circles, text, and adding images. These links are just an example of what's available and have been used to help produce some of the videos.

There are several coding languages used to design websites and we will use HTML5 and CSS3 before adding PHP and MySQL. At some stage you will need access to your internet service provider's web hosting features so that you can run your websites remotely. Hopefully the ISP has a cpanel element feature, or something similar that provides cpanel, so that SQL can be used.

The Coding Australia website uses a template from HTML5Up and Bootstrap modifications. The Games development platforms are the most popular at the moment.

Coding Australia is grateful to members of the coding community for many of the resources used on this site. Acknowledgements can be found in the relevant files and videos.
